The Senior Accountant will perform financial reporting and will provide basic tax and business consulting services to clients under the supervision of the principal, in accordance with CGA and firm standards.  We are looking for someone with possible partnership potential so maturity and common sense are a must.
MAJOR TASKS AND DUTIES:
1.     Set up financial statements and enter opening balances using Caseware and Caseview
2.      Reconcile accounting records prepared by the client
3.      Prepare year end financial statements and related working papers for compilation and review engagements
4.      Receive personal income tax return information from clients and review with the client for missing information
5.      Prepare complex personal income tax returns for review by the principal
6.      Review basic tax returns and approve for filing with CRA
7.      Provide basic tax and financial planning advice to clients
8.      Provide advice to clients with respect to set-up or improvement of their bookkeeping and management systems
9.      Review junior staff files and provide feedback
10.  Assist with firm marketing including attendance at the occasional networking event
11.   Occasional travel for KH Group functions
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Education
Completed all four  level courses of the CGA program.
Actively taking CGA courses and the minimum for this job is three courses a year, or be a CGA.
 Experience
Extensive experience in full cycle accounting and four or more years of recent experience as an intermediate accountant.
Audit experience desirable but not mandatory
Knowledge and skills

  • Excellent working knowledge of computers and their operations
  • Excellent working knowledge of Caseware working paper software
  • Excellent working knowledge of Profile tax preparation software, corporate and personal
  • Basic knowledge of the CICA Handbook and the CGA Public Practice Manual
  • Good working knowledge of the Income Tax Act (Canada)
  • Good working knowledge of Simply Accounting and Quickbooks
  • Must be able to deal with clients directly, and be extremely organized to handle the work flow required

The Burnaby office of the Kemp Harvey Group has a small amount of audits, plus other reviews and compilations, some U.S. engagements and trusts plus a large amount of T1s.  We are a small group of people looking for someone to complement our team.  Compensation: is negotiable to market rate, 37.5 hours per week in non-tax time, more during tax time, with benefits after probationary period
